Kids can trick-or-treat around the concourse, decorate pumpkins and ride a hayride on the warning track, and it all costs nothing.

The Richmond Flying Squirrels will host Squirrel-O-Ween, the team’s annual Halloween celebration, at CarMax Park on Friday, Oct. 30. The free event runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and is the first Squirrel-O-Ween at the Diamond District ballpark, which opened this spring.

Squirrel-O-Ween 2026 is presented by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The team bills it as a safe place for kids to trick-or-treat, and it lands the night before Halloween, which falls on a Saturday this year. Everyone is encouraged to come in costume.

It’s the latest community event at the new ballpark, which will also host the WinterWorld holiday attraction from Nov. 18 through Jan. 3.

Trick-or-treating, pumpkins and hayrides

Here’s what will be set up around the ballpark.

Halloween-themed booths and tables will wrap around the ballpark’s 360-degree concourse, so kids can trick-or-treat their way around the whole stadium. There will be a pumpkin patch in the Woodfin Yard where guests can decorate their own pumpkins, and Halloween craft stations will be set up in The Backstop.

Hayrides will also run around the warning track of CarMax Park’s playing surface, a rare chance to get that close to the field without a game going on.

Nutzy and Nutasha will be on hand to take pictures with fans. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at select concession stands on the main concourse.

Five costume contest categories

Winners will be named at 7 p.m.

The Flying Squirrels will pick costume contest winners in five categories: “Squirreliest,” “Best Group,” “Best Duo,” “Scariest” and “Most Creative.” Winners will be announced during the event at 7 p.m., so families hoping to take home a prize should plan to stay for most of the evening.

Group and duo categories leave room for coordinated family costumes, and “Squirreliest” is an open invitation to show up dressed as Nutzy.

Parking and planning

Admission is free, and so is parking in the lots at CarMax Park. With the event wrapping up at 7:30 p.m., it works as an early evening outing for younger kids before bedtime.
