Beware: VCU Move-in Starts Today
Crowded roads, sidewalks, road closures, random street crossing and more in and around VCU.
Virginia Commonwealth University will welcome its newest group of first-year students this weekend as the Class of 2030 moves into the university’s residence halls, marking the beginning of VCU’s fall semester.
“VCU is anticipating another strong incoming class of approximately 4,500 freshmen and 1,500 transfer students,” said Hernan Bucheli, Ed.D., vice president for Strategic Enrollment Management and Global Initiatives. “These figures are preliminary estimates and will be finalized at the census.”
Move-in will occur primarily on Friday, Aug. 14, and Saturday, Aug. 15. During move-in days, heavy traffic is expected, with limited parking in the vicinity of VCU’s residence halls.
In addition, Laurel Street will be closed between Broad and Main streets, beginning at 8 a.m. on both days. VCU Police will direct traffic at select intersections with North Laurel Street, including West Franklin and West Main streets.
VCU Police urges anyone traveling through VCU’s Monroe Park Campus during move-in to slow down, stay alert and use caution. Officers will strictly enforce traffic violations, including speeding and failure to obey posted signage.
