Virginia Transit Company the Latest Shipping Container Venue Officially Open

Virginia Transit Company (VITCO) is now open at 1010 N. Meadow Street. Stationed at the gateway to Scott’s Addition, The Fan, and the Diamond District, VITCO brings together a full-service bar, Southern California-style Mexican fare, live entertainment, a 12-foot LED wall, and expansive outdoor gathering spaces in a new destination for food, drinks, and company.

Today guests can enjoy VITCO’s outdoor bar, its first in-house kitchen, live entertainment, and weekly programming from World Cup watch parties to DJ nights. Additional bars, kitchens, covered cabanas, an outdoor stage, weather-protected gathering spaces, and other amenities will roll out throughout the year. The centerpiece of the space will be a historic streetcar, which will be incorporated into the stage and DJ booth for music and performances.

“This has been a hands-on project from day one,” said Arturo Zaloga, co-owner and managing partner of Virginia Transit Company. “We’ve spent the last year bringing this to life, and we realized we’d rather start welcoming people in than wait until every future addition was finished. We’re proud of what guests can experience today, and we’re excited to keep building on it.”

Anchoring the food program is El Camino, a concept developed over several years by Zaloga. The menu focuses on Southern California-style Mexican fare, highlighted by burritos, birria fries, vegan wings, and numerous vegetarian options. Under the direction of Head Chef Carmen Nuñez and Sous Chef Malik Cox, everything from the tortillas to the sauces is made in-house.

VITCO also features tax-inclusive pricing on all food and beverages, allowing guests to know exactly what they’ll pay before ordering.

“The response has been incredibly encouraging,” Zaloga said. “We’ve had neighbors stop in out of curiosity and become regulars within weeks. That’s exactly what we hoped for. A year ago, this was an empty lot. Today, people are meeting up after work, grabbing a drink, staying for dinner, and coming back with friends.”
