Stanley Clarke and The White Buffalo to open CarMax Park’s new concert venue

Richmond’s newest live music venue is ready to host its first shows. 804Live, the entertainment arm of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, announced today that jazz bass pioneer Stanley Clarke and Americana artist The White Buffalo will headline the first two concerts at the Atlantic Union Bank Lounge inside CarMax Park.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, April 17 at 11 a.m. at CarMaxPark.com.

Clarke kicks things off on Saturday, June 20 at 8 p.m., followed by The White Buffalo on Saturday, July 11 at 8 p.m. Individual ticket prices for Flying Squirrels events at the park start at $10.

Stanley Clarke brings decades of accolades to Richmond

The four-time Grammy winner and jazz bass pioneer is touring in support of his latest album, “Last Train to Sanity.” Clarke’s career spans gold and platinum records, multiple Grammys, multiple Emmy nominations, and wins in virtually every major readers’ and critics’ poll. He was Rolling Stone’s first-ever Jazzman of the Year and took home Playboy’s Music Award for bassist ten years in a row.

Clarke has received Bass Player Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award, earned a spot in Guitar Player Magazine’s “Gallery of Greats,” and been voted Best Electric Bass Player in Downbeat Magazine’s Reader’s and Critic’s Poll on multiple occasions.

In 2011, he won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for “The Stanley Clarke Band” with Ruslan Sirota and Ronald Bruner, Jr., featuring pianist Hiromi. He also picked up a Latin Grammy that year for Best Instrumental Album with “Forever,” recorded alongside Chick Corea and Lenny White. “Forever” went on to win the 2012 Grammy for Best Instrumental Album.

The June 20 performance will feature VIP table seating and reserved row seating for a more intimate listening experience.

The White Buffalo follows in July

The Ohio native, whose real name is Jake Smith, is a Grammy Award-winning Producer of the Year (2018) with four CMA Awards and five ACM Awards to his name. His dark, narrative-driven songwriting has appeared on soundtracks for “Sons of Anarchy,” “Californication,” and Marvel’s “Logan.”

The July 11 show will be a general-admission concert designed to take advantage of the lounge’s acoustics.

A new home for live entertainment in Richmond

The Atlantic Union Bank Lounge is a climate-controlled venue inside CarMax Park, and these two shows are just the beginning. The full facility can accommodate up to 14,000 people and is built to host concerts, festivals, and other large-scale events throughout the year.
