Campus of Virginia Randolph opens doors to community with grand opening celebration
The newly renovated Henrico County Public Schools campus blends historic preservation with modern career and education programs, and officials say it is designed to serve students and families across the county.
Families, alumni, and community members are invited to tour the new Campus of Virginia Randolph during a grand opening celebration on Wednesday, January 14th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 2204 Mountain Road in Glen Allen. The event will include guided tours highlighting new facilities as well as the site’s long educational legacy.
The campus is operated by Henrico County Public Schools and is named for Virginia Randolph, an influential educator who opened a one-room school for Black children in 1892. Randolph emphasized both academic instruction and practical skills, while working closely with families at a time when educational opportunities for Black students were severely limited.
County officials say the redesigned Campus of Virginia Randolph combines state-of-the-art construction with the renovation of the historic school building, aiming to preserve Randolph’s legacy while expanding access to specialized education programs.
The campus now houses several countywide initiatives, including the Academy at Virginia Randolph, the Virginia Randolph Education Center, the Advanced Career Education Center at Virginia Randolph, the HCPS Elementary Intervention Program, and a community hub for the division’s Family and Community Engagement team.
According to the school division, the site is intended to function as more than a traditional school campus, serving students with targeted academic and career-focused programs while also acting as a resource center for families.
The January 14th event is open to the public and will provide visitors with an overview of both the campus’s modern offerings and the historical role Virginia Randolph played in shaping education in Henrico County.
