Three Things to Kick About

  1. Cursed – I’m not saying the Kickers are cursed against Greenville at home but there is evidence to support this statement. Richmond seeks its first victory against Greenville since March 2023 and first win against Triumph SC at City Stadium since August 2020. The curse might not be limited to City Stadium since we haven’t beaten them in well over a year. There is not dramatic reason for the results to be this lopsided. The only logical answer is a curse.
  2. Redemption – Opposing teams don’t enjoy the amount of grief that they receive from the Red Army in Section O. As a result they often celebrate a goal right in front of the most passionate fans in the stadium. At times this has resulted in a beer or two being tossed at the players. Last year the Greenville player celebrating in front of Section O and the recipient of a beer shower was Hayden Anderson. During the offseason, Hayden became a Kicker. There was teasing during his introduction at the Season Ticket Holder event. The big takeaway is that the Kicker faithful feel that Hayden owes them a goal against Greenville in City Stadium. If this were to happen and Hayden ran to Section O the beer would fly again but in joy not anger.
  3. Stormy—Living in the South, we know that the threat of thunderstorms in the spring is always on the table. This game is the first one for which the chance of thunderstorms is predicted. This shouldn’t scare away anyone, but it might be worth bringing a rain jacket into the stadium just in case.

Prediction

Short and sweet this week. It’s time for redemption, Greenville’s not looking great so far we’re scoring a bunch but letting a bunch in. High scoring game but the Kickers will do just enough.

Kickers – 4
Greenville – 2
