Sip, Savor, and Smoke: Grand Tastings and SMOKED! events take center stage as part of Virginia Wine Expo this week

The Virginia Wine Expo, scheduled from February 28 to March 9, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia, will offer attendees a curated experience of the state’s finest wines, spirits, and culinary delights this week. Two standout events—Walk-Around Grand Tastings and SMOKED!—provide unique opportunities to explore Virginia’s rich gastronomic landscape.

Walk-Around Grand Tastings

Held at the historic Main Street Station, the Walk-Around Grand Tastings serve as the heart of the Expo. These sessions allow both wine enthusiasts and novices to sample a diverse selection of over 380 wines from Virginia and featured regions such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sonoma, California. Attendees can also taste Virginia spirits, ciders, and meads, all presented by knowledgeable representatives ready to share insights into each beverage. 

The event also features specialty foods and artisan products, enhancing the tasting experience. Guests can purchase their favorite Virginia wines and spirits on-site, and a complimentary ‘wine-check’ service holds purchases until departure.

SMOKED! A Whiskey, Wine & Global Smoked Cuisine Experience

SMOKED! is a signature event that combines premier whiskeys, a curated selection of wines, and global smoked cuisine. Scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Dewey Gottwald Center, this event offers attendees the chance to taste around 80 whiskeys and distilled spirits, along with 28 different wines, including many from Virginia, all paired with smoked foods sourced from local Richmond restaurants. 

The event is divided into two sessions: a VIP/Early session from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and a General Admission session from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The VIP experience includes early entry and access to exclusive tastings, providing an enriched culinary journey for attendees. 

Event Details and Ticket Information

The entire Virginia Wine Expo spans ten days and features 28 unique events showcasing 380 wines and 150 spirits from 11 countries and states. Tickets for all events, including the Walk-Around Grand Tastings and SMOKED!, are available for purchase on the official Virginia Wine Expo website. Advance purchase is recommended, as popular events may sell out.
