Richmond Folk Festival Begins Festing Friday

The festival is 3 packed days of music and cultural events starting Friday at 6 PM and wrapping up Sunday at 6 PM.

Richmond’s best festival, the Richmond Folk Festival starts Friday night with Tremé Brass Band (New Orleans brass band)  jumpstarting the music at 6:30 on the Altria Stage. This year’s three-day festival is early due to not wanting to conflict with Yom Kippur. The festival is still 3 packed days of music and cultural events wrapping up Sunday at 6 PM.

Here are the need to know bits.

There is one dramatic change this year. Due to the construction of the Riverfront Amphitheater the usual spot for The CarMax and Family stages have been moved. They are both located by Byrd Street. This means more hills. If you’re unable to make the journey of just tired from all the dancing the festival is providing free on-site shuttle busses.

Don’t forget this festival is free so be sure to donate to the bucket brigade. $10 a day is reasonable but feel free to start dropping some $20 bills in the bucket.
