Preview: Ivy in Penultimate Home Game of the Season on Friday

The Ivy are looking for a win after a hard fought draw on Wednesday

Opponent: Eagles FC (8-0-1)
Date/Time: Friday, June 21st, 7PM
Last Result: 1-1 Draw at Christos FC
Up Next: Home vs Lancaster Inferno, Friday, June 28th 7:00 PM

Weather Forecast From

Three Things to Kick About

  1. Attendance – Attendance for the Ivy has been amazing every game. The heat is the only reason it might be slightly lower than in previous games. The counter point is that folks showed up for a 2PM game that full intense sun. At least for Friday’s game the shade will slowly creep in as the sun goes down. The are still on pace to have a higher average attendance than the professional club Richmond Kickers. That comes with the caveat that they Ivy only play 6 games at home and have dodged the usual Virginia thunderstorms.
  2. Tough One – This week’s opponent is the top of the division Eagles FC. When the Ivy visited the Eagles last week they lost 2-0 but that game was closer than the scoreline. What is worrisome is that due to the nature of this league the Ivy are coming of an away game in heat and will be playing in heat with only a day of recovery and no practice time.
  3. Kanna Matsuhisa – Continues to cement herself as my pick for the season’s MVP. A constant threat and she scored the tieing goal in the last game. After the Ivy season wraps up you’ll still be able to catch her in action at VCU games this fall and spring.

As I alluded to in Three Things to Kick About this is a tough one. The team has shown a ton of heart and a never give up attitude even when down a goal or two. The problem lies in the opponent. The Eagle have racked up 34 goals and only allowed 5. The Ivy have 20 goals and allowed 14.  The number of draws in this league have been few so I can’t take the safe way out and predict a draw. Unfortunately, I don’t think the Ivy will give the fans what they want on Friday. Breaking down the Eagle defense and holding a potent offense at bay is just too tall of a task. I think the heat will mean a lower-scoring game and I’d expect lots of subs on both sides. I’m going to have to predict an Eagle win.

Eagles FC – 2
Ivy SC – 1
