Three Things to Kick About

  1. Brand New – The Richmond Ivy are a new team playing in USL W League. The USL W League will serve as the nation’s premier pre-professional league developing the next generation of women’s talent both on and off the field, enhancing the women’s soccer pipeline between college and professional soccer. With 44 teams across 20 states in its inaugural season, the USL W League will bring elite women’s soccer to communities across the U.S., creating more opportunities to play, watch and work in the women’s game.
  2. Who Are They – I’m going to leave the deep dive into the team and it’s player to smarter folk than myself. The crew over at River City 93 released a great podcast that takes a look at the roster.
  3. Popular – The team held a kickoff happy hour last night and it was a crowded affair and the line at the merch trailer was lengthy. The sold over 500 Founder’s Club memberships which also served as season passes. Pre-sale ticket sales as of last night were close to 5,000. It would not be surprising if the game were a sell-out especially with the perfect weather forecast. It’s great to see the support for the women’s game here in Richmond. If you haven’t purchased a ticket yet go here.

Prediction

I haven’t seen the team play. I haven’t seen any other team in the league play. I have seen some of the women on the Ivy play for VCU. Based on all the evidence presented before me I have no choice but to predict an overwhelming win for the Ivy. I’ll share the photographic evidence of the victory on Monday.
