A new smartphone tool is giving Richmond Region residents and visitors new ways to explore local breweries on National Beer Day this April 7 and beyond.

Richmond Region Tourism recently rolled out a “mobile passport” to support its Richmond Region Beer Trail. People can download the passport for free and save to a phone’s home screen for easy access.

After checking in at five breweries on the trail, users can win a free Richmond Region Beer Trail hat or beanie.

The region’s beer trail originally launched in 2016. With approximately 35 breweries, the Richmond Region Beer Trail is the largest of its kind in Virginia. The state is home to approximately 20 local beer trails.

“We’re very proud of our award-winning local brewing community,” said Jack Berry, Richmond Region Tourism president and CEO. “The new mobile passport will help introduce new and returning visitors and residents to the region’s thriving beer scene.”

Users can claim prizes at the Richmond Region Tourism’s Visitor Center located at the Robinson House beside the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Hats and beanies can be mailed to visitors.

Local breweries support the region’s economy and quality of life, according to Richmond Region Tourism leaders.

Across the state, Virginia’s craft breweries generate $1.5 billion in economic impact.

Just last month, the Richmond Region was named one of the 10 best beer cities in the U.S. in a USA Today 10Best reader’s choice list.

Richmond Region Tourism also offers physical maps at Visitor Center’s and local breweries.
