Richmond Ballet will once again present its fan-favorite New Works Festival during the Studio Two performances March 19-24 at the Ballet’s in-house Studio Theatre. Four choreographers will each create a brand-new, 10-minute ballet in just 25 hours, and those works will be presented as the performance program for Studio Two. This year’s choreographers include Emily Adams, Ballet West Principal Dancer; Ricardo Graziano, Sarasota Ballet Resident Choreographer; Andrea Schermoly, Louisville Ballet Resident Choreographer; and Ira White, Richmond Ballet Company Dancer.

The New Works Festival has become known by Ballet fans as an exciting experiment that, in past years, has introduced some of the company’s most beloved choreographers, including Katarzyna Skarpetowska, Jennifer Archibald, and incoming Artistic Director Ma Cong, to Richmond audiences. This season’s choreographers will have full access to the Ballet’s in-house production and costume teams as well as a state-of-the art black box theatre. They will each work with costume designer Emily Morgan and lighting designer Nathan Scheuer to craft a distinct look for their creations.

“What makes the New Works festival so exciting,” explains Ma, “is that we, along with the audience, do not know what is in store. We do not know what direction the choreographers are planning to take or even how many dancers will be in each piece, until they begin to set the work on the company. What we do know is that we have four talented choreographers, each with their own unique style and voice, ready to take on this challenge and ready to create a great show.”

Tickets to Studio Two start at $25. Tickets may be purchased online at etix.com, by phone at 804.344.0906 x224 or in person at the Richmond Ballet Box Office, 407 East Canal Street, Monday – Friday, 11:00am – 6:00pm.
