Downtown Lights Up the Holiday Season this Weekend

Thursday, November 30
Tredegar Tree Lighting Ceremony
American Civil War Museum, 490 Tredegar St.
5:30-6:30 pm
A new holiday tradition starts at the American Civil War Museum with the first tree-lighting ceremony. Enjoy a performance by handbell choir. Free event.

Friday, December 1
RVA Illuminates
Kanawha Plaza, 701 E. Canal St.
4-7 pm
Countdown with ABC8 for the tree lighting and illumination of Downtown Richmond’s skyline at 5:59 pm when all the lights come ON! Enjoy live musical performances, food trucks and a little extra sparkle. Free event.

Friday, December 1
The Grinch (2018), the movie
Kanawha Plaza, 701 E Canal St.
7-9 pm
Join the famous green miser at Kanawha Plaza for movie night under the city lights. The outdoor plaza will be lit up with holiday lights and surrounded by a backdrop of the festive city skyline. Bring a blanket or chair to sit comfortably on the lawn. Free event, sponsored by Venture Richmond.

RVA First Friday
Downtown Richmond Arts District
5-11 pm
Get into the holiday spirit when you explore the many galleries, shops, restaurants and more! Free to attend, fees for shopping.

Saturday, December 2
Dominion Energy Christmas Parade
Starts at the Science Museum of Virginia and travels east along Broad St., ending at 7th St.
10 am
Watch as larger than life balloons, marching bands, festive floats and costumed characters make their way down Broad Street as holiday music plays – and Santa himself makes an appearance on his own float! Rain or shine. Free event.

Soul Santa
Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, 122 W. Leigh St.

The jolliest man in the world is making a stop at the Black History Museum! Kids will enjoy meeting and taking pictures with Soul Santa. Reserve a timeslot in advance online for free. Free event.
