Preview: Kickers Host Fireworks and Chattanooga Red Wolves

So far the three game home stand has been disappointing. The Kicker hope to grab three points on Saturday.

Opponent:  Chattanooga Red Wolves (3-8-3)
Date/Time: Saturday, July 1st, 7:00 PM
Last Result: Kickers 2 – One Knoxville 2

Weather Forecast From

Three Things to Kick About

  1. BOOM – Yes, I know the Squirrels 4th of July fireworks is the “big show” but judging from last year’s fireworks at City Stadium the Kickers do a pretty darn good job. Fireworks will be going off shortly after the end of the game so figure about 9:30 or so.
  2. No Place Like Home? – This is the last of a three-game home stretch. To say the results have been disappointing is an understatement. First a loss to rival Madison, then a hard fought draw to new come One Knoxville. The Kickers have dropped from third in the standings to sixth. In the past home field advantage was a significant factor for the Kickers this season not so much. Lots of draws but not the wins that you need to get to the top of the table.
  3. Emi – You can’t keep a good man or striker down for long. Emiliano Tergazhi didn’t light up the league in the first half of the season but after scoring two last Saturday is suddenly once again in the running for his fourth Golden Boot. If that were to happen it would likely be a record never broken. As it stands three golden boots in a row is likely a record to stand for a really long time. Here’s hoping he’s found his groove and we’ll be talking about his goals in the coming weeks.

At this point in the season, there are no “must-win” games. There are however “come on man you gotta beat these guys” games. Chattanooga sit in second to last and only has 3 wins and a -16 goal differential. If we don’t beat this team soundly questions will be need to asked.

Kickers 3
Chattanooga 0
