Preview: Kickers Homestand Continues

Kickers are hoping to bounce back after a one goal loss to Madison last weekend.

Opponent:  One Knox  SC (5-4-5)
Date/Time: Saturday, June 24th, 7:00 PM
Last Result: Kickers 0 – Forward Madison 1

Weather Forecast From

Normal RVA summer weather, a chance for thunderstorms.

Three Things to Kick About

  1. Goals – This team is simply not scoring close to enough goals. Only 15 goals so far. Greenville leads the league with 24. Both teams have played 14 games. It could be argued that it’s not the number of goals that matter it’s when they happen that’s important. Many of our losses have been by 1 goal.
  2. Fouls – One Knox (a new team this year) could be called Many Knocks with the amount of fouling they’ve been doing this year. They’ve fouled a total of 200 times, leading the league and an impressive 40 yellow cards. Surprisingly they don’t lead the league in red cards, as they only have 1 compared to Fuego’s 4 red cards. Meanwhile the Kickers have fouled 150 times with 31 yellows and 1 red.
  3. No Place Like Home –  Well at least it should be. The Kickers are in the middle of a 3 games at home stretch. Ideally, that would be 9 points and put the Kickers right at the top of the table. After a lackluster game last week the best they can do is 6 points. They need to win both these games to keep pace with the league leaders. One Knox has the exact same record as the Kickers with a slightly better goal differential. The Kickers next opponent after One Knox is Chattanooga who are having a terrible season and we should win.

I was confident in the Kickers winning last weekend but now my confidence is shaken. I’m simply not seeing enough danger in front of the net. There are little stabs but very little in organized sustained pressure. I’m however a complete homer so I do think the Kickers can do just enough to win against this team. If it wasn’t at home, all bets would be off.

Kickers 1
One Knox 0
