Tang & Biscuit abruptly closes doors in advance of redevelopment, leaving event organizers in a lurch
Employees and event organizers say they were given little to no notice of the immediate closure, which was announed Wednesday following a Richmond BizSense report indicating the entire block was being redeveloped.
Shuffleboard bar Tang & Biscuit in Scott’s Addition has shuffled its last biscuit down the court. In a post on its Facebook page Wednesday, the restaurant, bar, and social venue announce it was closing, effectively immediately.
The news came just hours after Richmond BizSense reported that Capital Square Development had filed plans with the City of Richmond to redevelop two parcels at Roseneath Road and Moore Street, including the Tang & Biscuit and former Dairy Bar properties, into a five-story housing project.
Dominion Payroll owners Dave Gallagher and David Fratkin own the building and the business. They also operated former breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot Biscuits & Gravy for approximately a year in the previous Dairy Bar diner location.
Posts on social media allege that the group shut down the venue with little to no notice to employees or event organizers, and the company’s website still lists upcoming happenings.
One event organizer, Andrea Nicole, took to Instagram to share that an event she had been planning since April, Black AF, was abruptly cancelled, with a Tang & Biscuit employee calling her to tearfully share the last-minute news. She eventually found a new venue, hosting the event sunday at Blackbird Collective.
While neither Capital Square nor Tang & Biscuit have shared any news of a sale of the property, plans appear to be developing swiftly. We’ll update this story with any new information as it becomes available.
