Richmond is getting its own version of Monopoly, and the creators want your input on what landmarks to include

“Richmond is home to so many historic landmarks, beautiful outdoor recreation spaces, world-class museums, and top-ranked restaurants, so we knew the city would be the perfect location and are excited to invite the community to be a part of the process,” said John Marano of Top Trumps USA.

Top Trumps USA, under license from Hasbro, has announced a new edition of the world’s most popular board game, Monopoly, that will be specially designed for Richmond. The game will feature Richmond’s favorite historic landmarks, treasured outdoor spaces, and popular businesses.

From March 9th until March 20th, community members can suggest Richmond locations they would like to see featured on the board by emailing the Monopoly Richmond team here. All submissions will be reviewed and tallied through the board curation process. The game will be available in-store and online, including locations such as CVS and Amazon, in fall 2023.

“Richmond is home to so many historic landmarks, beautiful outdoor recreation spaces, world-class museums, and top-ranked restaurants, so we knew the city would be the perfect location and are excited to invite the community to be a part of the process,” said John Marano of Top Trumps USA.

Mr. Monopoly, the official Monopoly mascot, along with John Marano of Top Trumps and J.C. Poma, Vice President of Community Relations for Richmond Region Tourism, announced the Richmond-themed board game Thursday morning at Maggie Walker Plaza in Jackson Ward. The location was chosen as it represents the history, culture, and thriving business community that the Richmond Monopoly game will represent.

This curated version of Monopoly for Richmond is a one-time opportunity and will represent the city for generations to come. The criteria for consideration are longevity, credibility, and community outreach, a news release said.
