The short story: UNC Greensboro opened up a 2-0 lead, but the Rams fought back with two goals of their own to force the tie against the nationally-ranked Spartans.

QUICK FACTS

  • Sophomore forward Camilo Comi scored his first goal of the season in the 61st minute of action off a nifty cross from sophomore midfielder Philip Klomp.
  • Freshman forward Jean-Claude Bile tapped home the game-tying goal to cap off a dramatic sequence of events in the 86th minute. It is the first career college goal for the Suffolk, Va., native. Freshman midfielder Mouhamed Tucker helped set up the tally with an assist from left of goal.
  • Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper John Ermini finished the evening with seven saves.
  • The Rams boasted a 7-1 advantage in saves for the game as well as a 9-8 edge in shots during the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UNC Greensboro did most of the attacking in the opening half. The Spartans opened the night’s scoring with a 12th-minute header by Marco Afonso.
  • After halftime, UNC Greensboro was quick to extend their lead in the second half, as Izaiah Vignali scored from a tough angle right of the net in the 47th minute of play.
  • As the second half progressed, the Rams began to control the tempo and possess the ball more, pressuring the Spartans’ net. The efforts would pay off with the late goals by Comi and Bile´.

HEAR FROM HEAD COACH DAVE GIFFARD

After a really good week of training, it was a great battle from the guys. Obviously, with so many new players, we are learning lessons on the field against top competition, but the boys made plays and fought and battled as the night went on and certainly deserve the point after conceding what we felt like were two really soft goals.”

UP NEXT

The Rams will look to build on this result as they head back on the road to take on another nationally-ranked opponent in #20 Campbell. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, and the game will be streamed on ESPN+
