Summer is coming to a close as kids go back to school. Making the most of your weekend is even more important so we’ve picked some winners for y’all.

Kickers – The boys are home again and need the win to stay in the playoff hunt. They won last Sunday on the road and are hungry to get a second.

Chesterfield County Fair – The 108th Annual Chesterfield County Fair kicks off on Friday with all the usual fair fun. Pig races, fried foods, rides, chainsaw carvings and live entertainment. Added bonus this year of three-ring circus, an illusionist and escape artist.

Crabs & Beer by the James – All YOU CAN EAT Crabs & Beer Festival on Brown’s Island. Food vendors all day . Music will performed LIVE by TESTIPHY and 6 DJS playing all day. RAIN OR SHINE! National and craft beer. (Heineken, Coors light, etc plus craft beer selections) CASH ONLY. I do give this recommendation with a caveat, I haven’t been and it sounds a little too good to be true. Attend at your own risk. Also about the pricing: $10 kids under 10, $45 gets you all you can eat crabs from 1-5 PM, General Admission $20 gets you on the island but no crabs.

Under the Radar
One Love Community Block Party – Southside doesn’t get the love it should. There are many folks working to make Manchester and other parts of Southside a great place to be. This is another example. Ajay Brewer of Brewer’s Cafe is helping to organize an evening for businesses, artists, entrepreneurs, musical artists, community leaders, & members of the greater Richmond area community to market themselves and have a wonderful time doing it. Live music, DJ, vendors, beer and food.

December 18th
Be honest you’re going to spend much of the next week or so sitting on the couch stuffing your face with Christmas cookies. This work day will allow you to stuff your face guilt free because you’ve earned it. Shoutout to RVAMore for taking such good care of our local trails.
The new Millstone jump line refresh is looking amazing & headed towards the finish, but we really need to get the compacting process buttoned up. We have had everything covered with tarps during the rain so it should be dry enough to work on. Please consider coming out to lend a hand.
This Sunday we will be meeting at 9AM at the Swift Creek Lot, the first lot you come to after the big new lot when heading east on Courthouse Rd.
As always, coffee and doughnuts provided by RVAMORE, just bring work gloves and water.

One Great Morning of Raking at Maymont
December 10th
If you like Maymont and want to give back we’ve got the perfect way to spend your Saturday. Grab your rake and head on over. Registration is recommended.
Bid farewell to fall with One Great Morning of Raking in Maymont’s Japanese Garden on Saturday, December 10, 9am-noon. Work alongside Maymont’s horticulture team to help care for the historic Japanese Garden.
Groups and families are welcome! Volunteers are asked to bring their own rakes. Advance sign-up is recommended for this popular event.
Winter Wander at Various Locations

Wander about Richmond and catch all sorts of history and holiday cheer.
The Valentine is excited to announce the return of the annual holiday event Winter Wander. Winter Wander will take place on Sunday, December 11, from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. We invite those throughout the Richmond Region to join us in celebration of the winter holidays in the Court End neighborhood! Historic sites will open their doors for a day of free admission and holiday festivities, and Clay Street will be filled with carriage rides, live music, crafts, and more.Winter Wander is free and open to the public!In partnership with Court End Council, Winter Wander will include free admission to the following historic sites:–The Valentine: Children’s activities, refreshments, carriage rides, live entertainment on Clay Street, tours, and a silent dance party to kick off the holiday season.– The Valentine First Freedom Center: Explore the history of religious freedom in Virginia at the Valentine First Freedom Center, located on the same corner where Virginia’s General Assembly met in secret during the American Revolution. The Valentine First Freedom Center will be open for self-guided tours.– St. John’s Church: Open 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. for ticketed tours. Stop in the Visitor’s Center for shopping and refreshments. Richmond Boat Parade of Lights
December 10th
Boats with lights floating down the James. Hopefully, this floats your boat. Libby Hill is supposedly a good spot for viewing as his Rockett’s Landing and spots between Richmond and Osborne Landing.
Calling all boaters and fans of lights. Come on out on the second Saturday of December. Parade starts at Rockettes Landing around 5pm and floats down to Osbourne Landing. The boats usually arrive at Osbourne around 7pm. Free event.
Ghost of Pop: The Last One at Gallery 5

Music, lots and lots of music and as far as I know no Christmas songs to be heard.
After 16 years of putting on this local pop-music festival, we’ll be holding the final Ghost of Pop events on Dec 9th and Dec 10th.

LANTERN MAKING & PARADE
InLight kicks off with the Community Lantern Parade. We will gather at 7:00 pm at Gabriel Prosser Circle by the vehicle bridge (near the InLight info booth) and the procession begins at 7:30 pm. Need a lantern? Join us on Friday, November 18th at 6:30 pm at the Parade gathering site to make one!
PARKING
The main entrance to Bryan Park will be closed to vehicular traffic. Please use the Bellevue Ave entrance to park in the parking lots inside Bryan Park. A TukTuk shuttle will be running from these lots to the site for those who need assistance. Auxiliary parking will be available at the Virginia Repertory Theatre (formerly Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center) located at 4202 Hermitage Road with shuttles running continuously from 6:30 – 11:30 pm to the main entrance of Bryan Park. There is limited on-street parking in the surrounding area and the park can be entered on foot or bike through all the entrances (Bellevue Ave; Bryan Park Drive; and the main park entrance).
FOOD & BEVERAGE
InLight 2022 will feature local food trucks, including Monique’s Crepes, Four Brothers, and Boka Tako, Momma’s BBQ, and Alchemy Coffee. Hungry for more? Check out one of the great restaurants in the neighborhood! Just thirsty? Wine and local brews by Brown Distributing Company will be on tap.
Ballpark Warming Party at the Diamond

Take me out to the ballpark and I’ll donate a coat and eat a hot dog.
Saturday, Nov 19th 11am-2pm the Flying Squirrels and WTVR CBS 6 invite all their friends and fans to donate coats in support of Puritan Cleaners Coats for Kids program at the Ballpark Warming Party.
Come out to the Diamond and enjoy family fun including: live music from The Hit List, hot dogs, bounce houses, kids activities, monster trucks, vehicles from Richmond Fire Department, Virginia StatePolice, Richmond Ambulance Authority, Richmond Raceway and more.
Special giveaways while supplies last.
While warm coats for every member of the family are welcome, we especially need kids coats. You can help by donating any gently used or new coats you no longer need.
Puritan Cleaners will clean and repair each donated coat before delivering them to the Salvation Army to be distributed to local families in need this season.

The Great RVA Bake Off – FUNdraiser & 1st Anniversary Celebration at Tablespoon

This fall, our first annual “Great RVA Bake Off” (a play on the very popular Netflix series) will be held on November 19, 2022, from 12:00-2:00 pm at our Bakery’s location – 1707 Westover Hills Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23225.
Your favorite RVA Celebrities will team up with the Tablespoons’ Cookie Crew in the ultimate challenge to take home the trophy: Katie Ukrop & Shelley, Bill Martin & Chris, Marc Cheatham & Kemani, Robey Martin & Haley, and Todd Waldo & Cheyenne.
The event will involve a live judging component with judges from Richmond’s Culinary Scene: Jared Golden, Co-Founder of Richmond Restaurant Group; Eileen Mellon, Food Editor for Richmond Magazine; and Ken Lowrie, Executive Chef of The Westwood Club.
We will have Caroline Coleburn of CBS 6 serving as our emcee, Nutzy from the Flying Squirrels assisting with awarding prizes, and live music from The Sugar Hollows and Matt Lomaka.
November 19th marks the return of this signature fundraiser (since pre-COVID days) and celebrates our 1-year anniversary since the Bakery’s grand opening to the community.
Operating under the larger nonprofit, Next Move Program, Tablespoons Bakery allows us to carry out our mission each day – working to directly combat the 70% unemployment rate for young adults with developmental disabilities here in the Commonwealth. Tablespoons serves as both a supported employment site for young adults in the community and an internship site for area high school students with diverse abilities.
Your support of this event allows us to provide life-changing vocational education and employment services to our students and bakers, at no cost to them or their families.
Northside Artists Holiday Show at Lewis Ginter Recreation Association

More than 30 Northside Richmond artists are presenting a holiday show and sale benefitting FEEDMORE, November 19 from 11 am to 5 pm, at the Ginter Park Recreation Center, 3421 Hawthorne Avenue, Richmond 23222. Jazz will be featured on stage throughout the day, and bar proceeds, in addition to 10 percent of sales, go to FEEDMORE.
