Preview: Kickers Looking for a Win Against New England

The trip up north to Toronto didn’t go well for a number of reasons beyond the Kickers’ control. Tomorrow the Kickers should have all the advantages.

Weather Forecast From WeatherBug.com

Yikes.

Three Things to Kick About

  1. League Rant – Toronto II has played most of their “home” games on the road due to Canadian Covid regulations. The Kickers were only the second team to head across the border. Before going up they found out that none of their non-European citizens could travel with the team. Banned players included last year’s Golden Boot and USL1 MVP winner Emiliano Terzaghi and Oalex Anderson another scoring threat. Upon arrival, it was discovered that Toronto had loaded the team with MLS players in a totally legal but still sucks move. The result wasn’t as lopsided as it could have been with the Kickers falling 2 to 1. Why the USL league would allow this is another question.  Teams above Richmond on the table and in the playoff zone got to play Toronto twice at home. That meant they weren’t playing with the disadvantages that Richmond faced. For lack of a better more intelligent response it was bullshit and the league should do better.
  2. Player of the Month – There is a reason I’m so spicy that Emiliano wasn’t in the line-up. He was just voted Cleer Audio Player of the Month for the month of July after earning a unanimous vote from the USL Technical Committee and earning the second-most votes in the accompanying fan poll. The man is always a threat and netted five goals in July. Sure would have been nice to have him on the field.
  3. Weather – Last time we had a similar forecast I didn’t get home from the game until around midnight due to rain delays. Let’s hope that we don’t have the same issues tomorrow. Even if we don’t get the storms it’s gonna be a painfully muggy game. The Kickers could come out fast and furious to try and get the early score and sit back literally sweat out the rest of the game or set a more sedate pace and try to maintain it throughout. Pro tip: Throw a Ziploc bag in your pocket for your phone incase those storms pop-up.

Prediction

If my mood going into the game is any indication (it’s not) I feel the Kickers are going to come out very, very angry and hungry. We’ve shown we can beat this team and I think we will again. A decisive win.
