The final field is set for this week’s Dominion Energy Charity Classic, returning to The Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course, October 16-18. The 54-hole event will feature 81 players including five-time major champion Phil Mickelson, who will make his second PGA TOUR Champions start after turning 50 in June, as well as fellow World Golf Hall of Fame members Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie, Mark O’Meara and Vijay Singh.
Defending champion Miguel Ángel Jiménez returns after adding another two titles to his resume this season at the Mitusbishi Electric Championship at Hualalai and last month at the Sanford International. It marks the third straight multi-win season for the native of Spain, who carded a course-record-tying 63 in the final round to post a two-shot victory at last year’s Dominion Energy Charity Classic. Jiménez will be joined by fellow past champions Woody Austin (2018), Langer (2017) and reigning Charles Schwab Cup champion Scott McCarron (2016).
Seventeen-time PGA TOUR winner Jim Furyk, who turned 50 in May and went on to win his first two PGA TOUR Champions starts, will make his tournament debut in Richmond. It will mark the fourth start for the 2003 U.S. Open champion and 2010 FedEx Cup champion.

In addition to the United States, the field features players hailing from 12 other countries including Australia (Stephen Leaney, David McKenzie, Rod Pampling), Canada (Stephen Ames, Mike Weir), England (Paul Broadhurst), Fiji (Vijay Singh), Germany (Bernhard Langer), Esteban Toledo (Mexico), Northern Ireland (Darren Clarke), Scotland (Colin Montgomerie), South Africa (Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, David Frost), Spain (Miguel Angel Jiménez), South Korea (K.J. Choi) and Sweden (Robert Karlsson, Jesper Parnevik).

Richmond native Bobby Wadkins, who grew up playing The Country Club of Virginia with older brother Lanny Wadkins – a World Golf Hall of Fame member and lead analyst for Golf Channel – received a sponsor exemption and will make his first start at the event. Wadkins owns four PGA TOUR Champions titles, including a senior major at the 2006 Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship.
The Dominion Energy Charity Classic is typically the first of three Charles Schwab Cup Playoff events at the conclusion of the PGA TOUR Champions season. Following the onset of COVID-19 and event cancelations stemming from the global pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 seasons were combined to form a singular 2020-21 season, in turn reverting the three events back to full-field, 81-player tournaments.
While the 2020 tournament will be held without spectators on-site, the three-round event will broadcast live on Golf Channel, Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday and 2:30 – 5:00 p.m.ET on Saturday and Sunday.
Since the tournament’s inception in 2016, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic has helped to generate more than $3.5 million for Greater Richmond area charities with a focus on organizations benefiting military veterans. In three out of four years, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic has been voted by PGA TOUR Champions players as their favorite event, among all PGA TOUR Champions tournaments throughout the year. The Players Award represents recognition for a tournament that goes above and beyond in the experience they provide to PGA TOUR Champions players.

Virginia Capital Trail, East Coast Greenway Alliance announce first-ever Winter Warrior Challenge
The event challenges people to complete 282 miles along the East Coast Greenway and Capital Trail this winter.
The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation and East Coast Greenway Alliance have announced the first-ever ‘Winter Warrior Challenge’ virtual event to take place January 13th – March 31st.
The challenge is a great opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to virtually complete 282 miles along the East Coast Greenway, traveling from Washington, D.C., to Richmond via Greenway’s spine route and to the Virginia-North Carolina border along the Greenway’s historic coastal route. Participants have the option to tackle the challenge individually or in a team of up to four people and can choose to run, walk, bike, or skate their way across Virginia.
“With a shared vision of equitable access to trails and greenways for recreation and active transportation, we are thrilled to partner with the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation on the first-ever Winter Warrior Challenge,” shares Sarah Sanford, East Coast Greenway Alliance Virginia & North Carolina Coordinator. “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, people have flocked to trails and greenways to maintain mental and physical health. Registration is $40 and includes an individual and team leaderboard, interesting trail facts based on destination points along the route, an official event crewneck sweatshirt, and a fun virtual experience as you travel along one of Virginia’s most prestigious trail networks. Participants can break the route into segments and divide it up between team members or complete it on their own.
“Many people are unaware that the Virginia Capital Trail connects to the East Coast Greenway Alliance, which stretches across 3,000+ miles and 15 states,” mentions Cat Anthony, Executive Director of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. “We are excited to inspire outdoor adventure as participants explore and learn more about trail networks across Virginia. All Aboard, the Train Tradition Returns to Science Museum of Virginia
The three-day event features six different train displays with various scaled locomotives riding through intricate landscapes and miniature cities.
It wouldn’t be the weekend after Thanksgiving in Richmond without train-themed fun at the Science Museum of Virginia’s Model Railroad Show, presented by Dominion Energy. While the event will look different this year due to capacity limitations, the Museum is excited to host the model train club displays for the 43rd year November 27 through 29.
The three-day event features six different train displays with various scaled locomotives riding through intricate landscapes and miniature cities. Created by HO, O and N-scale model train enthusiasts from across Virginia, guests will also enjoy seeing the classic scenes in the displays of clubs that have participated in previous Model Railroad Shows for decades.
“The Model Railroad Show is a nearly half century Virginia holiday tradition,” said Chief Wonder Officer Richard Conti. “It was important to us to keep the tradition going, but to do so in the safest manner possible. Every change we’ve made to this year’s event is designed to help manage guest flow to create a safe and enjoyable event for families to create lasting memories.”
One of the most important changes for this year’s event is that all guests – including Museum members – must purchase tickets in advance through the website or by calling guest services. No walk-up tickets will be sold at the Museum. Tickets go on sale on the Museum’s website today, Nov. 10.
To manage the flow of guests, the Museum is offering timed entry both to the Museum and to the Model Railroad Show with a limited number of tickets available in each timeslot. When purchasing a ticket, guests will select their Museum entry time. Entry to the Model Railroad Show, held in the Dewey Gottwald Center, will be 30 minutes after guests arrive at the Museum.
The Museum will offer member-only hours each day from 8 – 9:15 a.m.; general public entry times will begin at 9:30 a.m. daily. The last ticket time slot will be 3:45 p.m. each day to allow guests time to experience the Model Railroad Show before the Museum closes at 5 p.m.
The Museum has adjusted operating procedures, including requiring masks, so guests are encouraged to review the reopening policies on the Museum’s website at www.smv.org/welcome before their visit. There is no reentry to the space housing the Model Railroad Show and/or the Museum all three days of the event.
While at the Museum during Model Railroad Show weekend, guests can take in free planetarium shows offered in the Dome at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Guests can also help with a collaborative railroad scene and make a conductor hat in The Forge. Museum educators will offer steam engine demos in various places around the building, and this year’s event also includes a display of historical Broad Street Station items from the Museum’s collection. In addition to the themed activities, the Museum’s “Speed,” “Boost!” and “Giant Insects” exhibits will all be open for guests to explore.

Planetarium shows in the Dome are free of charge all weekend, and seating is first come, first served. Each showing is limited to 50 people, and there is no food or drink allowed in the Dome. The Museum’s gift shop will be open each day of the show, but the café and concessions will be closed.
