A chocolatier with downtown roots that later moved to the suburbs is closing up shop for good. Chocolates By Kelly, which has been operating a storefront at Short Pump Town Center, will close its retail operation at the end of the month.

But for the many fans of Kelly’s inventive chocolate creations, the operation will live on, as she outlines in this note to customers:

“As of the end of August, Chocolates By Kelly will be shutting down its brick and mortar presence in Virginia permanently. I’ve been dreaming of moving out west to cooler temperatures and wide open spaces for some time now. The passing of my sweet grandmother/teacher in Philadelphia in January, followed by the onslaught of a global pandemic/recession caused me to consider how precious and delicate it all is. It’s time to seize the day. Chocolates By Kelly will resettle in Pinedale, WY which lies just outside of Jackson Hole. Our website will remain active, and we will continue to provide for our wonderful wholesale and corporate clients looking for unique custom chocolate gifts for the holidays.

I want my dear customers and friends to know how much they mean to me. We’ve seen a lot together over the past 12 years. I love you much and I sincerely hope you will stop by and say goodbye. Perhaps you will want to stock up on some chocolates too.

We will have our retail store open in Short Pump Mall every day until Sunday, August 30th. I will still be hand making all our best selling chocolates right up until the end, so hurry in to snag some before then. We will even take orders online at www.chocolatesbykelly.com or by calling 804-360-8518.

I can’t thank you all enough for all of your kindness and support over the years.

Kelly”
