The Virginia Department of General Services said it was erecting the barriers Wednesday morning to protect the safety of demonstrators and the structure. There are only four breaks in the barrier. If there were to be a repeat of the tear gas event protestors would have a very hard time making any sort of escape from the area around the monument.

We will end with a brief discussion about what we can do to protect and expand green spaces in Richmond and beyond, and guided meditation to reflect on and appreciate the beauty of our natural surroundings.
We will be meeting in the Forest Hill Park parking lot at 12:00 PM and the walk will start promptly at 12:05 PM

Caroling in Monroe Park
Get ready to lift up your voices on high, this Sunday at Monroe Park.
The Grace and Holy Trinity Vocal Ensemble, the RVA Street Singers, the Hood Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, and the Greater Richmond Children’s Choir will be leading a community sing in Monroe Park on Sunday, Dec. 12.
The four groups will lead community members in both traditional hymns and songs of the season from 4:00-4:45 pm. The food trucks Monique’s Crepes and Shake Down Eats will provide food and beverage alongside Espresso A-Go-Go from 3:00-6:00 pm.
It’s Over at The Westover for Now
They stated that they’ll be considering other potential concepts for this space in the new year.
The coffeeshop/restaurant The Westover (formerly Taza/Zata) is taking some time off to reconsider their options. Located at 5047 Forrest Hill Avenue for the past few years has been run by Tuffy Stone of Q Barbecue fame.
They made the announcement on Instagram today.
