Arrest made in fatal Chamberlayne Avenue hit and run involving pedestrian

Lawrence C. Smith, 65, of Chattanooga, TN was arrested last night and has been charged with the felony hit and run, expired registration, and failure to yield right of way.

The Richmond Police Department’s Special Operations Division-Traffic Crash Team has made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run that happened earlier this month in the city’s Northside.

Lawrence C. Smith, 65, of Chattanooga, TN was arrested last night and has been charged with the felony hit and run, expired registration, and failure to yield right of way.

At approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, January 17, officers responded to the 2300 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for the report of a crash.  Lawrence Smith’s vehicle collided with another vehicle, which then hit several parked cars and a pedestrian. Smith fled the scene of the crash.

The pedestrian – identified as Grayland A. Brooks, 62, of the 1400 block of N 30th Street – was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Richmond Police seek missing Northside woman last seen in Washington, D.C.

Candis H. Bellah, 32, is missing from the 3800 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. Bellah was last seen in Washington, D.C. on Monday, March 16 and was expected to return to Richmond on that same day but has not been seen.

Candis H. Bellah, 32, is missing from the 3800 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. Bellah was last seen in Washington, D.C. on Monday, March 16 and was expected to return to Richmond on that same day but has not been seen.

VIDEO: Richmond Police seek suspect in St. Patrick’s Day burglary at VCU area vape shop

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect in a commercial burglary that occurred on St. Patrick’s Day at Kulture, a vape shop near VCU’s Monroe Park Campus.

At approximately 6:10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, officers responded to a business in the 1200 block of West Cary Street for the report of a commercial burglary. When officers arrived, a witness stated she heard glass breaking from the business next door.

Video surveillance shows a man jump headfirst into the glass door of the business. He’s then seen smashing a cabinet and reportedly stole thousands of dollars of merchandise.

The suspect was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and a black backpack.

Police identify victim in Lamb Avenue homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of yesterday’s homicide as Rushard O. Grant, 40, of Charleston, SC.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of yesterday’s homicide as Rushard O. Grant, 40, of Charleston, SC.

At approximately 8:29 a.m. on Monday, March 16, officers responded to the 2400 block of Lamb Avenue for the report of an abandoned semi-tractor cab. Once on scene, they found Grant unresponsive in the front of the cab. He was suffering from apparent trauma to the body and pronounced dead at the scene.
