A new restaurant for the Manchester area.

The Continental Westhampton is a staple for diners on Grove. Eventually, those of us South of the river will have our very own Continental to call our own at 609 Hull Street. Continental brings to the table a diverse menu that you can check out here. I highly recommend the meatloaf.

From the full-article on Richmond BizSense.com:

Giavos said Continental Manchester will be a similar concept to his Continental Westhampton that’s been open for eight years along the Libbie-Grove corridor.

“We decided to take the ‘W’ in Continental Westhampton and flip it upside down for Manchester,” he said.

“It’ll be neighborhood-friendly, accessible, not too expensive. Hopefully it’ll be good for that neighborhood. There are so many young professionals over there, hopefully I can bring something that’s a needed commodity.”

According to the article no date is set for projected opening.

Photos and Game Summary: Kickers Battle Fog and High Point University for a Preseason Win

Last night the Richmond Kickers played against High Point University out of North Carolina at the River City Sportsplex.

Kickers: 3
High Point: 1

No official summary of the preseason game against High Point University. The reason is two fold. Basically this is a friendly with an abundance of new players and lack of numbers tends to make any serious evaluation hard. Secondly, efforts at tactical analysis were further hampered by an extremely dense fog. Players at the other end of the field were barely distinguishable. We can tell you that so far the Kickers seem to be playing a much higher press and much more direct attack under new Coach Darren Sawatzky.

Stanley Alves netted two goals the first in the 10th minute and the second in the 21st. The first was unassisted the second service was a quick one-two in the box with Terzaghi.

Jonathan Bolanos scored in the 18th off an Emiliano Terzaghi rebound. This was doubly exciting for Bolanos as High Point is his alma mater.

High Point showed signs of life in the 44th minute. Goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald made a stunning diving save but the ball fell into the box and the Kicker’s defenders were unable to clear the ball.

The Kickers have another pre-season game that is open to the public this Sunday at Ukrop park against Old Dominion University. Kicker legend and all-around good guy William Yomby is currently an assistant coach for ODU. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 PM>

From Stephanie Lynch:

Greetings, we have provided a synopsis of a draft proposal for traffic calming measures to improve the overall safety of the area between Reedy Creek and W. 34th along Semmes & Forest Hill Ave. We are asking for your input before these proposals move forward to the next phase of 30% designs.

These improvements are being funded by a federal grant that will expire and effectively evaporate if they are not used. The city has already spent a considerable amount of resources to study, design and test simulations for their recommended safety measures. The 5th district office has been working on this issue for several years and we have had multiple community meetings throughout the process.

This is an exciting opportunity to get some much-needed funding to help to improve the safety of our community. We have provided a ‘quick reference’ below, as well as a more detailed summary, map, and links to help you give the most informed input.

You will see questions at the end of this survey as well as an opportunity for comment. Please feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions.

This survey will close on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
