This weekend’s Henrico Humane Society Pet Expo marks 20 years for the nonprofit’s signature event

Expect a lure course, adoptable dogs, pet contests, vendors, a kids’ area, and much more at the Richmond Raceway Complex this weekend.

Henrico Humane Society’s (HHS) is celebrating its 20th annual Pet Expo, which will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Richmond Raceway Complex, 600 E. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23222.

Pet Expo is a family and pet-friendly event designed with your pet in mind! Whether you’re looking for stylish collars, an obedience trainer, toys, treats or anything in between – you’re likely to find it at the Pet Expo. More than 50 vendors will be onsite selling pet-related products and services. A full day of activities is scheduled including a pet parade, puppy races, dog contests, agility and lure courses, dog adoptions, caricatures, and several silent auctions. The Kid’s Area will have new activities including a bounce house,  an adoption stand with stuffed animals, and a ‘Vet Clinic’ where kids can get their new ‘pet’ examined by a vet. WTVR Richmond TV personality Greg McQuade is scheduled to emcee.

“Since Pet Expo began in 2000 more than 38,000 people have attended the event, which has netted more than $400,000 benefitting the pets in our care. We’re proud to be the longest-running event in Richmond where people can bring their pets to participate in a day of fun,” Melissa Golden, event organizer and HHS vice president said.

In honor of the 20th Pet Expo anniversary, Henrico Humane Society is inviting everyone who has previously adopted a pet from the organization to “strut their mutt” in an alumni parade and pose for a group picture.

The event is sponsored by local organizations and companies that make a difference in our community. Petco Foundation is the Diamond level sponsor; Platinum level sponsors include CBS6, Nestle Purina and Richmond Family Magazine.

Proceeds from the Pet Expo, the flagship fundraising event for the organization, help cover medical expenses for dogs and cats in their care, including those who have been neglected or abused, so that they can be adopted into a permanent, loving home.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12; children under 6 and pets are free. Tickets can be purchased online for $8 prior to the event. All proceeds benefit Henrico Humane Society. For more information on the Pet Expo, visit them on Facebook at or at their website,
