Forest View Neighborhood and Community Tree Planting Day
There are 127 trees in .4 miles stretch of the median north of Forest Hill Avenue, yet only 34 trees in the .9 miles stretch south. This weekend the number of trees to the south will increase with your help.
Katie Lemmert and the Forest View Neighborhood with help from Councilman Jones, Councilwoman Larson, and the Richmond Tree Stewards are leading the charge to get more trees into the median of Westover Hills Boulevard. You can help out this Saturday.
We are building the tree canopy on Westover Hills Blvd. You might not realize, but there are 127 trees in .4 miles stretch of the median North of Forest Hill, yet only 34 trees in the .9 miles stretch South. Westover Hills South of Forest Hill Ave should have a similar tree density to its neighbors North of Forest hill Ave. And with this project – we are making an improvement!
Based on the city’s Tree Inventory Map, there are 54 spaces in the median of Westover HIlls Blvd, south of forest hill that need a tree. This doesn’t include the vacant sites near the sidewalks.
Together with Councilman Jones, Councilwoman Larson and the Richmond Tree stewards we are working together to increase the tree canopy. Check out this tree inventory map of the city:Â https://cor.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=3dda2aa7521941d8a48dc91f5014a5c8
I’m hoping collectively we can work together to plant more trees and get them watered and thriving. With this tree stewards program and help from neighbors – we can increase the tree population gradually until we have as many as our neighbors to the North! The Tree Stewards have awarded us 10 trees.
On Saturday, November 2nd, we will be digging 10 holes and planting 10 trees in the median of Westover Hills Blvd. We need 3-4 volunteers per tree.
We will meet/park at Living Water Community Center/Westover Baptist Church, 1000 Westover Hills. Blvd.
- Please wear close-toed shoes, bring a pair of work gloves and a bottle of water.
- Please bring a shovel (if you have one).
I really look forward to seeing more trees on Westover Hills Blvd and with your help – we can make it happen.
