Down Home Family Reunion at Abner Clay Park – The city’s biggest celebration of African American folklife takes place this weekend at Abner Clar Park in Jackson Ward. The Down Home Family Reunion, put on by the Elegba Folklore Society, will feature world music and dance, demonstrations, down-home food, and much more. It’s free to attend and kicks off at 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 17th. Learn more.

Richmond Flying Squirrels homestand at The Diamond – It’s the next-to-last homestand of the Richmond Flying Squirrels’ 2019 season this weekend. The Squirrels are home Friday through Wednesday at The Diamond beginning with a retirement party for COTU’s Chin Music beer on Friday. Learn more and get your tickets here.

First-ever BIG Taco Festival at Hanover Vegetable Farm – The first-ever BIG Taco Festival, presented by BIG 98.5, takes place this Saturday, August 17th at the Hanover Vegetable Farm starting at 11:00 AM. There will be lots of food trucks serving up tacos, a cornhole tournament with a $500 prize, bounce houses, and more. Admission is $10 for both entry into the site and for the cornhole tourney. Honey Bee Day at Blue Bee Cider in Scott’s Addition – Where would we “bee” without bees? Celebrate International Honey Bee Day with Blue Bee Cider in Scott’s Addition by sampling their Wild Honey cider and enjoy food from Boni Roni BBQ, area vendors, and more.
