RTD Reporting that Elephant Thai has Closed

Increase in the rent is the reason given for shutting the restaurant down.

Karri Peifer of the RTD has the news that after 15 years, Elephant Thai is no longer open.

The restaurant closed at the end of service Sunday, June 23.

The closing was announced on a sign on the restaurant’s door and was attributed to the restaurant losing its lease.

The Thai restaurant opened at the corners of Cary and Harrison streets in 2004. In 2015, owner Tosaporn Thongpraiwan opened a second location of the restaurant at 4401 W. Broad St. That location remains open.

A spokesperson for the restaurants said Elephant Thai decided not to renew their lease because the rent was increasing. Elephant Thai paid roughly $4,700 a month for the space, or $10.33 per square foot.
