Lee Bridge Closed this Morning Due to Person with a Gun

The incident started on Lee Bridge but the person moved the Virginia War Memorial but the bridge is closed and police are asking that people avoid the area.

RPD at 8:40 AM: Situation on Lee Bridge has been resolved. Northbound lanes of Belvidere Street are being reopened.

Capitol Police say there is a ‘public safety incident’ inside the amphitheater area of the Virginia War Memorial, shutting down the Robert E. Lee Bridge.

Richmond Police first received a call of a woman threatening to harm herself on the Lee Bridge. By the time officers arrived at the bridge, the woman had walked to the memorial.

Authorities say the woman is armed.

A heavy police presence remains on the scene, including the SWAT team.

There’s no word yet if there are any injuries.

Authorities are asking drivers to avoid the area, and to expect possible traffic delays and diversions on Belvidere and 2nd streets.

As of 8 AM the Lee Bridge was still closed. The incident began around 2:30 AM.
