Northsiders were excited about plans for a brewery at a former car wash at 310 W. Brookland Park Blvd. That excitement has been squashed.
Now for the difficult part. Over the course of the past year, we had been working towards opening a physical brewery on Brookland Park Boulevard. The process began when Cory Weiner made us an offer for a build out allowance to construct a new building on the site of a dilapidated car wash. The offer was attractive, but not enough to cover the entire cost of construction of a new building. In order to get an in-depth estimate of what this project would ultimately cost, and to better understand how much of our own money we were going to have to put into someone else’s asset to get the space we wanted, we dove headfirst into the worlds of architects and commercial real estate and construction and urban planning.
Unfortunately, after a deeper financial analysis, we will be unable to move forward with construction of the brewery on Brookland Park Boulevard. We knew that this might be a possibility from the outset, but there was just no way for us to have a complete understanding of the costs associated with ground up construction in this location without going through the Special Use Permitting process. We are sorry to have gotten your hopes up. (A big thank you to the City of Richmond, to Cory Weiner for being incredibly easy to deal with during the entire ordeal, and to the Brookland Park Neighborhood for being incredibly supportive). We’re going to take some time to regroup and figure out how to move forward. In the meantime, keep your eyes out for more collabs and possibly some summer festival appearances! Cheers!
Don’t forget that there is a Northside brewery that opened recently, Tabol Brewing. Sours are their specialty but they’ve got other beers if sours aren’t your thing. Don’t expect to slap your face with hops, IPA’s definitely aren’t their jam.
