The Nutcracker at Dominion Energy Center – The timeless family classic, The Nutcracker, returns this Friday to the Dominion Energy Center to enchant audiences with all of its splendor and beauty. Join Clara as she revels in the joy of Christmas Eve, bravely witnesses a battle beneath the branches of a mystical Christmas tree, and journeys through a winter white forest to the delectable Kingdom of Sweets. As the beloved characters of this dazzling production come to life to Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, children and adults alike will be swept away by the magic of the holidays. Tickets start at $25. 5th Annual Brew-Ho-Ho at Hardywood – Join Hardywood for the 5th Annual Brew-Ho-Ho, a yearly celebration of local authors and beer held at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery’s original location in the city. Chop Suey Books will donate 10% and Hardywood will donate a portion of sales to the Virginia Children’s Book Festival, a free yearly event each October in Farmville. The Wizard Of Oz at the Altria Theater – This beloved tale, in which a Kansas farm girl travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home, has been entertaining audiences for generations. The Wizard Of Oz includes the songs “Over The Rainbow,” “Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead),” “If I Only Had A Brain/A Heart/The Nerve,” “We’re Off To See The Wizard (Follow The Yellow Brick Road),” “The Jitterbug,” and “The Merry Old Land of Oz” and “If I Were King Of The Forest.” It’s a faithful adaptation of the film recreating the dialogue and structure of the MGM classic nearly scene for scene, though it is adapted for live stage performance. Maymont by Moonlight at the Dooley Mansion – Enjoy an enchanting holiday evening Friday night at Maymont. Elegantly costumed Victorian ladies and gentlemen welcome you to the home of Major and Mrs. James H. Dooley to witness the excitement of Christmas 1893. The Dooleys’ gracious family, guests and domestic staff bring to life the busy preparations for a special celebration – the first Christmas in their new home. A horse-drawn carriage ride under the stars, seasonal refreshments and joyful carol-singing by the bonfire make this an evening to remember. Tickets are $30; $25 for members. More here.
