Weekly Food News: A new twist on “BRUNCH” in the Fan, Stella’s heads downtown, Czech and Slavic food, and more

This week, a look at two new restaurants in the Fan (one of which opens today), Stella’s third location, a new café for the Williams Mullen building, and more.

All the news that’s fit to eat

You already guessed the name of LUNCH. SUPPER!’s new Fan venture – Well, this one wasn’t hard to figure out. The folks behind LUNCH. SUPPER! in Scott’s Addition are tackling a whole new meal: BRUNCH… (they’re styling this one with an ellipsis), to open in the former Starlite space in January. Co-owner Rick Lyons, who started the aforementioned restaurants, was one of the founders of Starlite in 2002, so it’s all come full circle. Karri Peifer has more on what to expect.

Charlotte’s Cafe coming to Williams Mullen building downtown – A restaurant that shut down in Newport News is coming back to life and making a move to Richmond, the RTD reports, and will be housed in the Williams Mullen building in Downtown Richmond (in the space formerly occupied by La Parisienne Bistro and Café, which, honestly I’ve never heard of). More on what the downtown lunch crowd can expect here.

Stella’s heads downtown with third location – Stella’s Grocery is on the move. The Greek-centric grocer, known for prepared foods and specialty items at their locations in Malvern Gardens (across from their restaurant) and Scott’s Addition is opening a third location in Downtown Richmond. More on what you can expect at the new location at 109 E. Grace Street, including a full coffee bar, from Style Weekly.

Virginia Czech & Slovak Folklife Festival this weekend – It may be a bit out of the way, in Prince George, but it sounds well worth the drive: The sixth annual Virginia Czech & Slovak Folklife Festival takes place this weekend. Expect traditional food, dancing, games, agricultural exhibits, special cultural exhibits, live animals, great music, and more. Details here.

Kreggers at Hand opening today – Kreggers at Hand, the new Fan restaurant from the folks behind Kregger’s Tap and Table in Ashland, is opening tonight, and Robey Martin, reporting for CBS6, has a preview of what to expect in her Lunch Break segment. Click to view.
