Community meeting on renaming Boulevard to honor Arthur Ashe rescheduled for October 9th

The meeting was rescheduled due to the impact of hurricane Florence; the new date is October 9th at the same time and place.

Update 9/20/18:

Councilwoman Gray has announced the community meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 9th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at the VMFA’s Leslie Cheek Theater.

Update 9/10/18:

It was announced today that the Thursday meeting to discuss renaming of the Boulevard to Arthur Ashe Boulevard has been postponed due to predicted inclement weather. The meeting will be rescheduled but that date has not been selected at this time.

Original Post 8/22/18:

Richmond City Councilwoman Kim Gray will host a community meeting regarding the proposed renaming of the Boulevard to Arthur Ashe Boulevard, honoring the local tennis legend, on September 13th, it was announced Tuesday.

The meeting, to be held at 5:30 PM at the Leslie Cheek Theater at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, will include a public comment period. All area residents are encouraged to attend.

The proposal to rename Boulevard to honor Ashe was announced at the August public meeting of the Scott’s Addition Boulevard Association and is being spearheaded by David Harris, the late Ashe’s nephew.
