If you’re good with measuring your skills are needed this Sunday.

Both Canoe Run Park (600 W. 22nd Street) and Carter Jones Park (2813 Bainbridge)could use a few more trees.

Fortunately, the parks have received a grant that gives each park 30 trees. The trees cannot be planted willy-nilly so Amy Robins is asking for a little help in developing a plan for getting the trees into the ground.

First up is Carter Jones Park. The plan is to meet in Carter Jones Park this Sunday from 9:30-10:30 AM for a bit of measuring and form filling out. Please note, there will be NO TREE PLANTING this Sunday that will be happening in October.

Hi neighbors! I mentioned in another post that the neighborhood parks got a grant for 30 trees (each) in Carter Jones (and Canoe Run) from the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. I need to fill out and turn in the planting permit and variances. The map in the picture above is just a rough draft.

Please note this will be the first time filling out a planting permit of this size for me. So I’m no expert. I need to measure distances in between the new trees and geo plot the proposed plantings along with the size of the tree at maturity (S, M, L). We still have time to decide the species of tree.

MY ASK can I get a few people to help me out this Sunday with measuring. I’ve got a ticket in with 811 to confirm the plantings will not interfere with underground infrastructure . Fingers crossed before Sunday, but I can tweak if not.

Items to bring: Shoes you don’t mind getting wet in the grass, water or coffee, sunscreen, rolling measuring wheel if you have one, or a measuring tape.

The actual tree planting will take place on Saturday, October 20 9-12pm for Carter Jones Park. This will be partnered with the 5th District cleanup for Woodland Heights & Swansboro. So there will be a lot going on. Yay!

I’ll create another event soon to measure Canoe Run Park. That planting will be Saturday, November 17.

This will all be discussed in more detail at the upcoming Thursday, September 13 Woodland Heights Civic Association meeting at 611 W. 31st Street. See you there!
