GRTC on Tuesday announced the appointment of interim Chief Executive Officer Charles Mitchell, who will oversee the transition between CEOs after current CEO David Green announced he was leaving to pursue another opportunity. This is the second time in his career Mitchell has stepped in as interim CEO for GRTC.
Mitchell’s career at GRTC spanned several leadership roles since 1992, including serving as the Director of Maintenance and Operations Manager before retiring in 2015 as Chief Operating Officer.
“In Charlie, we are incredibly fortunate to have not only a professional with a wealth of transportation knowledge, but also a familiar face to the GRTC family, said GRTC Board Chair Gary Armstrong. “I know the Board is confident GRTC’s progress and continued positive momentum are in steady hands during this transition period.”
“I am honored to be back here to again assist GRTC with a smooth transition between executives,” said Mitchell upon his arrival this week. “I did this once before when Mr. Eldridge Coles retired, and I am excited to be a part of where GRTC is going. GRTC has completed several major initiatives since my retirement, and I look forward to contributing to further advancements in my time as interim CEO.”
The transit system will conduct a search and recruit for a new CEO, a process which is expected to take several months.
