Manchester Alliance to Discuss Possible Homeless Services Center on Bainbridge

The proposed shelter in Manchester would require a special use permit requiring city council approval.

1101 Bainbridge Street

A proposal to open a new homeless shelter in Manchester has been met with resistance from many residents and business owners. Commonwealth Catholic Charities is currently eyeing a former church at 1101 Bainbridge Street as a location for a new shelter. The shelter would replace a dilapidated downtown cold-weather shelter and serve up to 200 individuals, providing much-needed help finding jobs, health services, and ideally more permanent housing.

The proposed shelter in Manchester would require a special use permit requiring city council approval.

RTD covered last week’s public meeting on this proposal, here.

The Manchester Alliance is hosting their monthly meeting this Thursday, August 9th at 6PM at Legend Brewing (321 West 7th Street). The agenda includes an update from the Richmond Police Department, the Hull Street Library and an open discussion about the Homeless Services Center proposed for 1101 Bainbridge Street.
