The wild and scientific nature of Ardent Craft Ales’ Sour production – RTD

The making of a sour ale is more science than my brain can handle. This article by Andy Garrigue helps but I’m still in awe of the process.

Erin Cochran, a scientist responsible for quality control at Ardent who modestly describes her work as handling “any lab-related stuff around here,” says “these bacteria prefer an anaerobic environment.”

And they are where the beers’ sour taste comes from. “Sour is a unique byproduct of the bacteria,” she says. “The bacteria spits out the acid that gives it the sour flavor.”

Valentine’s Day Standard Bitter Release – Ardent, Wednesday

Being bitter on Valentine’s Day isn’t bad, drinking bitter on Valentine’s Day is even better.

Feeling bitter this Valentine’s Day? We’ve got just the beer for you! Our Standard Bitter is an ultra drinkable beer clocking in at only 3.7% ABV.

Mild malt aroma, pale yellow color, and light carbonation are hallmarks of this classic British style. First Gold hops feature subtle notes of tangerine and orange marmalade, providing a moderate bitterness that is restrained to preserve a balanced, palatable ale.

Hardywood Baltic Sunrise is conditioned on locally roasted coffee beans from Black Hand Coffee Company in Richmond, VA. Our Baltic Porter is an invigorating, full-bodied lager with a bold aroma of freshly brewed coffee preceding notes of bittersweet chocolate, hints of dark cherry, and a malty, smooth finish.

Raspberry Gose Release – Steam Bell Works, Saturday

Head out Midlothian way to get your raspberry beer. Sweet, tart, sour it has it all.

This Saturday, Steam Bell Beer Works will have the debut of our Gose Collection, with a Raspberry Gose! This variant has the tart acidity with the mild saltiness of a traditional Gose, all while presenting itself with a potent fruited nose of raspberry aroma. The clean finish on this well balanced Gose with all the sweet, tart, and sour characteristics make you just want another, and at a crisp 5.5% we say go for it!
