Former President Barack Obama is hitting the campaign trail–the first such instance since he left the Oval Office–in support of current Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam, Virginia’s Democratic candidate for governor. Obama will speak at a campaign event at a yet-to-be-announced location alongside Northam on October 19th.
The Northam camp announced the news Wednesday afternoon. The Virginia gubernatorial race, one of only two occurring this November across the country, is being closely watched by political pundits, many of whom see its outcome as a prediction of other races to come.
The news comes less than a week after President Donald Trump tweeted his support for Republican candidate Ed Gillespie, claiming voters shouldn’t vote for Northam because he is “fighting for” the MS-13 “killer gangs.”
Ralph Northam, who is running for Governor of Virginia,is fighting for the violent MS-13 killer gangs & sanctuary cities. Vote Ed Gillespie!
