Local butcher and market JM Stock Provisions is closing their storefront in The Fan, it was announced Monday afternoon. It remains unclear exactly when the shop, located at 1531 W. Main Street, will close its doors for good.

Owners of the shop said the Charlottesville location will remain in operation, and JM’s popular “Meat Club” and wholesale distribution will continue, in an email to customers on Monday announcing the changes:

Friends, Family, & Customers of JM Stock,

After careful deliberation, we have decided to close the Richmond location of JM Stock at 1531 West Main in order to focus on our Meat Club program, expand wholesale, and, ultimately, reopen a Richmond branch in a location that is more suited to our needs.

That being said, we will continue to be active in the Richmond food community through Meat Club, Farmers Markets and a full-slate of events around town. In particular, we will continue to vend at Birdhouse Farmers’ Market on Tuesdays from 3 to 6 PM and the Scott’s Addition Market at The Veil Brewing Company every other Sunday from 1 to 4. Meat Club will be our primary retail outlet with pick-up locations at both Farmers’ Markets weekly, as well as Sub Rosa Bakery on Sundays from 10-12 AM. We plan to add more locations, including a south side pick-up location soon!

Our Charlottesville flagship will remain open and unchanged. The talented staff in this location will be servicing our production needs for Meat Club, markets, and wholesale accounts.

We have loved getting to know you and your families over the past couple years, and we hope you will continue to seek us out to provide you will the highest quality pasture-raised meats.

Party on,

James, Hunter, Matt, and the Gang.
