Mother’s Day is sure to be a total “drag” at Strangeways Brewing this Sunday

Equal parts drag and variety show, the event will be one to remember with mom.

Strangeways Brewing is about to live up to its name even more than usual with an inaugural Mother’s Day drag brunch, hosted by RVA’s favorite socialite and renowned performer, Magnolia Jackson Pickett Burnside. Equal parts drag and variety show, the event will be one to remember with mom.

From Strangeways Brewing:

In addition to top-notch queens like Burnside and Candy Pantzzz strutting their stuff, you’ll see a little skin courtesy of burlesque performer Melody Magpie and get a little bit of song thanks to Barnabas Beverly Burnside. All served up with a side of Mama J’s delish chicken and waffles, included in the admission cost! Mama will get the royal treatment as she sips her beer and tosses singles toward the stage.

Co-hosts River City Beer Betties will also be on hand to celebrate and make sure beer-loving mamas stay connected after the show. “My mom is solely responsible for my love of beer, so we jumped at the chance to be a part of this,” says the group’s founder, Hilary Langford. “We hope beer enthusiasts bring their moms out and attend future Betties’ meetups together.”

“Every time I perform it feels like I’m hanging out with a bunch of my friends,” Burnside said. “Some of the audience may be strangers, but for two hours we become bosom buddies–sometimes literally.” The hostess promises tons of audience participation, prizes, and shenanigans. “If they play their cards right, they may just get lucky!,” she says adding, “I just can’t wait to see all these drunk moms – mine included!”
