Lakeside Avenue Pedal & Gears Bike Festival rolls into town on Saturday

In its second year, Pedal & Gears will celebrate the rich bicycling history of the Lakeside neighborhood and bring the region’s bicycling organizations and community together for information-sharing, activities and fun.

From the Pedal & Gears Bike Festival:

The second annual Pedal & Gears Bike Festival will take place onSaturday, April 29, 11 AM – 3 PM at the Lakeside Farmers Market. Organized by the Lakeside Business Association (LBA) and supported by Bike Walk Northside, Lakeside/Chamberlayne for Safe Biking and Walking, and Sports Backers, the festival will showcase the Lakeside shopping district and bring the bicycling organizations together to present the community a day full of information-sharing, activities and fun.
“We are excited to host Pedal & Gears again this year,” says Michele Baynes, Store Manager at Munford Jewelry Buyers and 2nd Vice Chair of the Lakeside Business Association. “Lakeside is such a great place to live, work, and play, and we look forward to welcoming everyone, both seasoned Lakesiders and people visiting us for the first time, to our neighborhood on April 29!”
Lakeside – home to the region’s first bicycle organization, the Lakeside Wheel Club established in 1894 – also has a rich bicycling history, including several developments over the last few years. Serving as the starting location for the team time trials at the 2015 UCI Road World Championships and home to the region’s first permanent bicycle friendly business district, the Lakeside neighborhood welcomes visitors on two wheels and hopes to improve bicycle and pedestrian access to the corridor in the coming years.
“The Lakeside Business Association continues to advocate for improvements to develop Lakeside Avenue as a welcoming place for people of all ages and abilities to bike and walk,” says Jennifer Saunders, owner of Twig and 1st Vice Chair of the LBA. “We invite you to come enjoy all that Lakeside has to offer – on foot or by bike!”

Attractions at the 2017 Pedal & Gears festival will include:

  • Live music
  • Food for purchase from: Los Gauchos, Virginia BBQ, Unkol Chuck’s Brunswick Stew, Daddy G’s Salsa and Chips, Blue Bunny Ice Cream and more
