From the VHS:
Join us at the Virginia Historical Society (VHS) for a Banner Lecture, Revolt and Repression: Reconsidering the Nat Turner Slave Revolt, by Patrick H. Breen, on Thursday, November 10, at noon.
On August 21, 1831, Nat Turner and his rebels swept through Southampton County, recruiting slaves and killing nearly five dozen whites. Within two days, whites reestablished control. Breen examines the terrible choices faced by slaves, the deep disagreements among whites, and new ways of thinking about Nat Turner, his revolt, and American slavery itself.
Tickets are $6/adults, $5/seniors, and $4/students and children. Admission is free for VHS members and Richmond Times-Dispatch readers with a Press Pass coupon. The Banner Lecture Series is sponsored by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Tickets are available for sale the day of the lecture. Mr. Breen will sign copies of his book after the lecture.
We are pleased to offer audio and video recordings of the lecture series on our website for VHS members and friends who cannot attend. Please visit our video and audio web page to search and enjoy past lectures at the VHS.
