Richmonder Townley Haas goes for gold in Rio in 200-meter freestyle finals tonight

Richmonder Townley Haas, a standout swimmer who attended Benedictine and swam for local aquatics organization NOVA, has made it to the finals for the 200-meter freestyle event at the 2016 Olympics in Rio where he will go for the gold tonight.

Haas, 19, finished second in his heat over the weekend with a time of 1:46.13. On Sunday evening, he swam again in the semifinals to clinch the fourth place spot with a time of 1:45.92.

Haas will compete in the finals Monday night at 9:20 PM, which will be broadcast live on NBC12.
